Upgrade rules dealing with memory, backplanes, and power supplies must be verified with DEC. If you are interested in this program, please let Central and us know. We are hoping to get a group to work on this and AXP systems. In addition, disk storage is critical to some. Please indicate in what areas you will be upgrading. We will have a summary by the COA meeting. Therefore, have your guesses in by 5/21. This is just an interest survey to see if a better deal can be worked out with DEC. Send information to SCACAD@SNYBSCVA (or SBSCVA::SCACAD) and BLUNTCR@SNYCENVA. We all probably want to maintain efficient record keeping of our efforts. TARGET->HOTLINE provides the process of logging, assigning, and resolving problems all in a software package. Features include: - complete help desk - end user problem logging - customer profile database - support rep workstation - search and query - e-mail interface - chargeback tracking - problem escalation - self-updating monitor - reporting Target Systems have offered SUNY the following prices: TARGET->HOTLINE license fee $37,000 TARGET->HOTLINE annual maintenance 4,440 ------- $41,440 That breaks down to as little as $2,500 per campus if we can get 15 campuses to sign up for this software...even less if more do. Sites which currently have this software will be able to fall under the maintenance contract and existing licenses can be updated for a fee. Contact SCACAD and BLUNTCR@SNYCENVA if you are interested. 3.0 HP Oracle Support Costs Clarified! As further clarification on the Oracle costs listed in the Comparative Budgeting Information section of Newsletter Vol 1 No 4, please note that all prices were for unlimited users except the AXP4000 which was listed for 128 concurrent users and the HP-UX which was listed for 32 concurrent users. Additionally we would like to present price quotes for the HP-UX for 128 concurrent users. Please note that these prices are from the most current Oracle price list. The campuses who did respond were HSC Brooklyn Canton Cayuga CC SUNY Central Empire Farmingdale Library Services Old Westbury Potsdam HSC Syracuse If your campus' name is missing, hop to it and get it done. These reports are needed for the Digital Annual Report that needs to be filed by the CSSC in June. If we do not receive your survey soon, EXPECT A CALL. To refresh your memory, instructions follow: 1) Request the software, "SUNYDASC", as you would any other package in GETSOFTWARE. 2) Create a directory in which to run the software. SYS$COMMON:[SYSMGR.YNUS] is recommended... 3) Break-out the saveset. 4) Run the Site Inventory Report as directed in the README file. This will require exactly ONE manual intervention to determine that the Support Center machine in Buffalo is up - and can be reached on the network. The software will automatically send a copy of the report to Buffalo, for inclusion in our bi-annual report to Digital. 5) Run SUNYDELETE as indicated in the README file, to remove the software. Removal of the software is REQUIRED by our agreement with Digital. In fact, getting permission to use this software (without Field Service on site) took special permission from Digital. The software is normally "internal use only." If your site is BELOW VMS 5.4-2, please contact SCSYS@SNYBSCVA before running the SUNYDASC software. If you have any questions regarding the procedure, please first download the SUNYDASC software, read the README.TXT file, and if any questions/problems remain, feel free to contact us at SCSYS@SNYBSCVA.
