| 1.
How does my campus participate in this contract?
| Contact
Mary
Ann Corsetti for information on participating in the
university-wide ESRI contract. |
| 3.
How
do I obtain documentation?
(back
to top)
|
|
Each campus will receive one hard copy of the documentation with their
media. ESRI now includes a soft copy of the documentation on the
product CDs or DVDs. Campuses have the option of contacting ESRI
Telesales at 1-800-447-9778 to order documentation.
The 40% discount will apply to orders placed directly with ESRI
Telesales. See documentation
page for further information. |
|
| 4.
What software requires a hardware key and license file and
what machines should I install them on?
(back
to top) |
The
following software requires a hardware key (dongle) and a license file for
the machine that will act as a license manager:
ArcInfo Workstation
ArcGIS Desktop
ArcGIS extensions |
| 5.
What information do I need to provide to get the hardware key? (back
to top)
|
| For each machine that will act as a
license manager, we will need to know the manufacturer, the OS, the
model, serial number,
server (machine) name, whether or not there have been hardware keys issued for it before
now (if so, we will also need the key number (371*****), or Host ID
for Unix. If ordering hardware keys from us there is a $35 charge
per key (ITEC will bill the campus following existing procedures). You
will need to specify if you want a USB key or a parallel port key. |
|
| 6.
Whom do I contact for software?
(back
to top) |
| ESRI
software is distributed for SUNY by ITEC.
Each participating
campus has a license manager and a technical coordinator.
Only the license manager has the authority to contact ITEC for the
software. If you are the license manager, an AtTask account has been created for you.
Open a new AtTask issue with the subject "ESRI Software
Request" and list the software that you need. If you are
new to AtTask and unsure about its use, documentation can be found on
the AtTask
Web Access Page. If you prefer, you may send email to ITEC
with the information about the software you need. We will be
glad to open an AtTask issue for you and walk you through the process. |
| If you are not the
license manager, you must contact that person
on your campus to arrange for the software to be ordered. |
|
|
7.
Whom do I contact for support?
(back
to top) |
|
Support is obtained from ITEC. Each participating
campus has a license manager and technical coordinator.
Only these two have the authority to contact ITEC for support. If you are the
license manager or technical coordinator, an AtTask account has been created for you.
Open a new AtTask issue with the subject "ESRI Support Request" and
enter the question. If you are
new to AtTask and unsure about its use, documentation can be found on
the AtTask
Web Access Page. If you prefer, you may send email to ITEC
with the information about the support you need. We will be
glad to open an AtTask issue for you and walk you through the process. |
| If you are not the
license manager or
technical coordinator, you must contact that person(s)
on your campus to arrange for support. |
|
|
| 8. What is the policy on faculty/staff vs. student use?
(back
to top) |
| Read policy in
November 28, 2001 email:
[esri-l] ESRI Software Use: Faculty/Staff
vs. Student Use |
|
|
| 9.
What if I am installing in a lab or several labs?
(back
to top) |
| There
are a couple of scenarios for lab installs. |
| In
one case, you could have one machine act as a license manager.
The ArcGIS software is installed on each machine and points to
the license manager. As
each machine uses the software, it checks out a license. When it
is no longer using the software, the license is freed for someone else
to use. |
| Another
approach is to install the ArcView single user version on
one machine and use GHOST to create an image of all the software that
is to installed on each machine in the lab or labs. Other than
the normal tasks that must be performed when you use GHOST, there are
no additional tasks that must be performed for the ArcView software to
run. |

What about MrSID?
(back
to top) |
The MrSID Encoder for
ArcGIS enables the most efficient use of large georeferenced images
in ArcGIS. MrSID's ability to encode large image files into
smaller-sized high-quality MrSID files makes it ideal for use with
maps, satellite images, and aerial photographs. MrSID reduces many
image file sizes by at least 95 percent while maintaining the
geometric accuracy of the original image. The MrSID Encoder included
with ArcGIS can display MrSID images of any size, and can encode
individual, decompressed rasters smaller than 50 MB. The raster file
size limit is not based on file storage size, but rather, on the
number of pixels. The 50 MB size rule will be evaluated as follows:
image width * image
height * number of bands * bytes per pixel, cannot be greater than
50 million
The
MrSID Encoder is developed and supported by LizardTech, Inc.
Additional products that allow you to compress images of a larger
size are available from
LizardTech.

Where
do I get information about patches? (back
to top) |
| |
| For a list of all of the
latest ArcGIS patches, visit ArcOnline.
Additionally ITEC will forward to the esri-l list any information we
receive about patches. |
|
| 13. Why
don't I see Atlas GIS in the ITEC software listing?
(back
to top) |
| ESRI
no longer develops and sells AtlasGIS. It can be
purchased through RPM Consulting
(http://rpmconsulting.com/ie4.html).
|
|
14. Extensions available for ArcGIS 9 release and prior. (back

Does ArcGIS 9 support Microsoft Windows Vista?
ArcGIS 9.x products are currently not supported
on the Microsoft Windows Vista release. ESRI is committed to
supporting ArcGIS on the Windows Vista operating system and will be
adding support for Windows Vista and future releases. Certification
of Windows Vista for ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Engine is on-going
and ESRI's goal is to certify them in the near future.
ArcGIS 9.2
ArcGIS 9.2 Desktop and ArcGIS 9.2 Engine are
currently undergoing certification on the Microsoft Windows Vista
operating system. We are hoping to support these product releases
under Vista later this year. Note that this certification will not
include any of the ArcGIS 9.2 Server products.

ArcGIS 9.1 and earlier is not supported on the
Microsoft Windows Vista operating system and there are no plans to
support ArcGIS 9.1 and earlier on this operating system in the
future.
ArcView GIS 3.x
ArcView 3.x is not supported on the Microsoft Windows
Vista operating system and there are no plans to support ArcView GIS
3.x on this operating system in the future.
ArcPad
ArcPad 7.0 (and previous versions) products are not
currently supported on the Microsoft Windows Vista release. ESRI is
committed to supporting ArcPad 7.0 on the Windows Vista operating
system and will be adding support for Windows Vista in future
service packs and future releases.
MapObjects Windows and MapObjects Java
MapObjects Windows 2.4 and MapObjects-Java 2.2 and
