OpenVMS Alpha Upgrade Check off List 10/10/01

Pre-Upgrade

ITEC and Campus will perform the following pre-upgrade tasks:

q Gather campus system information:

The Campus will perform the following pre-upgrade tasks:

q Request OS & Firmware CDs

To request an OpenVMS Alpha operating system CD from ITEC:

Go to http://vc.itec.suny.edu/~gsoft/gsform.html .

Enter your Remote License Manager account and password.

Select CDROM Offerings, click on Submit Query.

Select the box to the left of VMSAXP0721 and FIMWARE58 and click on Get_Software.

q Perform backups:

1. Full system disk backup

2. Oracle database backup (If Oracle is being upgraded also)

ITEC will perform the following pre-upgrade tasks:

q Download Patches/ECOs to SYS$SYSDEVICE:[SAVE] on Campus system

As of 10/10/01 – PATCHAXP0721 & PATCHAXP0721A

q Review the layered product versions for compatibility with OpenVMS

V7.2-1 and Oracle upgrade

q List layered products:

q Continue pre-upgrade using the OPENVMS Alpha Version 7.2 Upgrade doc at

http://www.itec.suny.edu/scsys/vms/upgradeOpenVMS721.html

Upgrade

ITEC and Campus contact will work over the phone and perform the following upgrade tasks:

q Upgrade firmware if needed.

q Upgrade OS

q Continue upgrade using the OPENVMS Alpha Version 7.2 Upgrade doc at

http://www.itec.suny.edu/scsys/vms/upgradeOpenVMS721.html

Post-Upgrade

ITEC will perform the following post-upgrade tasks:

q Install Patches/ECOs

q Install/upgrade layered products:

q Check the following:

1. FTP

2. Telnet

3. Decnet

4. other

q Continue the Post-Upgrade using the OPENVMS Alpha Version 7.2 Upgrade doc
